Favorite Books
What is your favorite book of all time? It could be a book that changed your life, or one that your mom read to you as a little kid. Or maybe it was just REALLY good. Talk about them here!
Re: Favorite Books
I'm also sort of anti-Twilight at this point, but ignoring the whole idea of the series/franchise, I honestly enjoy New Moon as a separate book. I still prefer The Host over anything else Meyer writes though.
My all-time favorite book series is, of course, Harry Potter. I've been reading since I was six years old and I barely have any memories from before I loved Harry Potter. I've read the books an innumerable number of times and I roleplay with it as well as reading/writing fanfiction and listening to wizard rock.
As far as non-series, my favorite books are: Anthem by Ayn Rand, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, and The Giver by Lois Lowry. If you've read any of these, you'd know that they are all set in the future, but they're certainly not sci-fi. They are depictions of the dysfunction of the modern world and tend to point out that the media, government, etc., are not all that they seem and may not have our best interests in mind. In Anthem, all technology (even electricity) is wiped out, and people completely lose individual identity to the point that no one knows the word 'I', and even if they did they'd be executed for saying it. Brave New World shows us a time when there are no families, due to babies being cloned from zygotes, manipulated, and grown. The world runs mostly on the economy, promiscuity and drugs run rampant, and no one seems to be really happy underneath the brainwashing that begins even before "decanting" (birth). The Giver is, of course, about a world with no color, music, art, or memories. Everything is controlled by a very strict set of rules and even minor infractions may end up getting you sent "Elsewhere", a euphemism for being euthanized.
^^So, yeah, there's my little rant on my favorite books

Re: Favorite Books
Im sorry, but I have a really hard time getting into non-series books. I dont know why. Every time I pick one up, I just know that the advanture ends, and I hate that. I use books to escape boredom is the reasonm I guess for that though.

Re: Favorite Books
i kinda made this forum because of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I was reading it and I was like, "hmmm. This would be a good idea for a forum!"
And so, Ambrosia and Nectar was born.

Re: Favorite Books
Asking me to pick my absolute favorite book is like...,asking me to pick my favorite song, impossible for me because it changes so often
Right now I'm devouring the Robert Langdon series (the da vinci code angels and demons, there's a new one coming out soon) but I'm also obsessed with Jodi Picoult especially The Pact, Nineteen Minutes, and Keeping Faith
I've been reading HP since I was six but they were never really my favorite
I loved the Hunger Games.
I'm passed the "OMIGOSH TWILIGHT *SQUEAL*" phase and am in "I hate all this crap surrounding the books but the books were okay" phase.

Re: Favorite Books
There is such thing as a favorite book?!
I either have too many, or it changes so suddenly and rapidly, constantly that I can't pinpoint it out.
The Inheritance Cycle is love (Which reminds me, I need to reread FIRE!)
Harry Potter Series, Twilight Series, The Fire Within Series, the Young Wizards Series, Percy Jackson Series, the Ranger's Apprentice Series, the Pendragon Series, the Imaginarium Encyclopediae Series (i think its something like that), the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, *stops, gasps for air*
Well, those are the ones I can think of right on the spot.
I also love the Sundry Youth, Aysos, Guildiland, Valaya, and other Alarian stories, but those are just waiting to be written, so... *shrug*

Re: Favorite Books
OH MY GOSH Inheritance Cycle is on your top!?!? Nicole, such things should be known to me! Eka fricai un Shur'tugal! lol yeah i only wish i was of the Argetlam. Really though I'm in love with the series (enough to know the language) and Murtagh bless his tainted soul
I thought I had shared on this thread before! But I guess I haven't. Apart from the Inheritance Cycle I'm also hung up on many others at the time.
The Wicked Lovely Series (Ink Exchange being my favorite IRIAL FOR THE WIN)
Gemma Doyle Trilogy
Percy Jackson
His Dark Materials
The Uglies Series (WHY ZANE WHYYYY?)
PEEPS (although there was only two)
And anything by Ellen Hopkins, her work is so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes.

Re: Favorite Books
I have to say anything by LJ Smith, Jodi Picoult, and Nicole Robertson are favorite books of mine. The uglies series was engrossing I have to agree
but I have to say Nightworld <3 I need to find a black iris.
And the forbidden game trilogy [*sigh* why do you have yo be so bad Julian...but so so so so...yummy] and then there's always VD-the first love of my Lj Smithness.
Jodi picoult books are so OMM! O_O
she wrote my sisters keeper and I've read all but four of her books.
12/16 isn't a bad record.
Nicole Robertson...her books ate amazing. none of you have heard of her I'm sure but her plotlines are so Yum! [Darsha...why do you have to be so amazingly sexy, you arrogant jerk! I love you though!]
